St. Croix is a relaxed little island in the Caribbean. We attract visitors from all over the world and all different types of people. We also bring fantastic celebrity chefs to St. Croix each year for the St. Croix Food & Wine Experience. Just to drop a few names, we’ve had Chefs Tiffany Derry, Tim Love, Rocco DiSpirito, Kevin Rathbun & Merlin Verrier among many others all made a meal or two at The St. Croix Food & Wine Experience, a benefit for the St. Croix Foundation’s annual fundraiser. But, when someone like @AndrewZimmern retweets @STXFoodandWine, it’s like love shared on a billboard in the middle of Times Square NYC.
We wave hello when former presidents and movie stars walk down the street and shop in our shops on vacation here. Maybe it’s just me, but I got overtaken like a 1960s Beatle crazed highschooler when chef-icon Andrew Zimmern of The Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods showed up with a crew to film on our lil’ island here in the Caribbean. How how cool that he talked up some great local spots like Chicken Shack, Rukie’s Rotis, Annaly Farms on this St. Croix episode.
He endorsed our island and tweeted us to the world. He truly gave St. Croix a fantastic morale booster with his gushing compliments of our food, our restaurants and our people.
In an interview with our local paper, The Source, Zimmern expressed how pleased he was with our lived-in island.
“Seeing those kinds of cultural stories and how they turn out — this is a wonderful place to tell stories and I adore it. I love St. Croix. It’s beautiful and the weather is great. But the people are what make it,” he said.
Andrew Zimmern takes the shi-shi out of eating and keeps it real. Yes, he likes the fine dining, but he craves and appreciates good regular people food too. And since St. Croix is an island that isn’t just about tourism, we like to think we are able to cater to him and all diners. Thank you Andrew Zimmern and your 517,000 twitter followers for coming to St. Croix to visit us, film us and share us with the world.
We can’t wait to see the St. Croix episode go live. Maybe we’ll host a episode airing party serving some great Crucian cuisine – Goat Water, Roti and Senepol beef. And we’ll toast our Mauby and Sorrell drinks to you for taking the time to come visit us on St. Croix.
